This course is designed for military members, police and law enforcement officers, paramedics and emergency medical providers, and anyone else who might have an interest in better understanding gunshot wounds. It is aimed at a foundational level and is not designed to be a definitive guide to every type of weapon and ammunition type. Generalisations are made in some areas and stereotypical wounding profiles based on ballistic gelatin studies are used as representations of typical wounding profiles for the weapon systems discussed. 

This course is not designed for those who already have a solid working knowledge of terminal ballistics, or are wanting to see a wide comparison of different wounding profiles from different ammunition types from the same weapon. Likewise, this course is not for physics majors who are chasing a precise description of the principles of kinetic energy and terminal ballistics. All of that can be found elsewhere, this course uses generalisations and simplifications to introduce the fundamental aspects relevant to gunshot wounds. 

Lessons are in the form of videos with a concise text description of the content also provided in each lesson. There is approximately two and a half hours of content in total, with videos ranging in length from around 8-20 minutes. I've deliberately made the videos no longer than 20 minutes each so that busy first-responders can watch them in short bursts between other commitments or jobs!

No, the videos have been produced by myself with basic filming equipment. The sound is crystal clear on all, but for a video producer I make a great doctor! Some of the videos suffer from the lighting being too bright, making me look like I have a good sunburn going, and on one the sound is slightly out of synch, making it appear like an old overdubbed kung fu movie! That said, the content of the videos is at the high level that I expect of myself, and rather than spend another month re-recording the videos I'm not completely happy with, I decided to get it out there in its current form. 

Yes. This course contains graphic imagery of gunshot wound casualties, including post-mortem images from fatal wounds. If you are offended by graphic imagery, this course is not for you. Warnings are included throughout the lessons that contain graphic imagery, both at the start, and immediately before the images are shown, to prepare the viewer for them. Viewer discretion is advised.
